What time is worship?
Worship is at 10:30 a.m. and usually concludes around 11:40 a.m. We then gather downstairs for coffee hour and fellowship.
What should I expect when I walk in?
When you walk into First Presbyterian Church, you’ll be greeted with a handshake and a smile, and handed a bulletin. If you would like, you can fill out a visitor card located in the pews.
What are your worship services like?
Our worship service is traditional with organ and piano music, a choir, and hymns. The choir members and pastor wear robes. But within this traditional worship, you will find the service warm and joyful, even casual at times. The sermons are practical and relevant while rooted in Scripture, and the prayers are genuine.
We believe you’ll leave the service spiritually challenged, refreshed, and filled. We pray that this will fuel you to live out your week as a disciple of Jesus: to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God.
How should I dress for worship?
At First Presbyterian, you will see a range of casual to more formal clothing and you are welcome to dress how you are most comfortable.
What is available for children?
Children are joyfully welcomed in our worship service! During the service, children are invited to proceed to Sunday School. If your kiddos want to stay with you for the rest of worship, however, that is absolutely fine!
Can I take communion?
In our tradition, all who have been baptized are welcome to participate in communion, as these two sacraments are two sides of the same coin of God’s grace. While we believe being baptized is an important step before taking communion, the invitation is for all. We don’t check your credentials before partaking. We believe we do the inviting, and it is then between you and God.

We celebrate communion on the first Sunday of the month. During this time, you are invited to stay seated, as the elements will come to you. When you receive the bread or cup, please wait for all to be served, as we partake in each element together as a family.
Are you affirming of LGBTQ+ people?
Yes, we are affirming of LGBTQ+ people. All may participate and share in the life, leadership, ministry, fellowship, worship, sacraments, responsibilities, and blessings of First Presbyterian Church of Quincy. See below for our Welcome Statement.
First Presbyterian Church of Quincy affirms that all people are created in the image of God and are beloved children of God. We welcome all to participate fully in our faith family, regardless of where you are on your faith journey. We embrace and celebrate the diversity of people God has brought to this family and we affirm the dignity, worth, and belovedness of all people.
We welcome all people into the life of our church family regardless of race, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, physical or mental ability, socioeconomic status, country of origin, or immigration status. At FPC Quincy, all may share in the life, leadership, ministry, fellowship, worship, sacraments, responsibilities and blessings of participation in Christ’s Body, the Church.
What brings this family together is a desire to grow together in faith, to deepen our discipleship to Jesus Christ, and to offer our unique gifts, individually and collectively, to God. All are welcome to join us.
“There are varieties of gifts, but it is the same Spirit who gives them. There are different ways of serving God, but it is the same Lord who is served. God works through each person in a unique way, but it is God’s purpose that is accomplished. To each is given a gift of the Spirit to be used for the common good. Together we are the body of Christ, and individually members of it” (Book of Common Worship, paraphrasing 1 Corinthians 12:4-7, 27).
*Note: Session commits to review this Welcome Statement annually.
